On the heels of the one-year anniversary of Warhawk's release, Incognito delivers a massive (free) update.

In a heavily-loaded entry on Sony's PlayStation.blog today, Warhawk game director Dylan Jobe officially announced the details of Incognito's next big Warhawk update, version 1.5. Slated for release on August 27, the new download will provide new features, the biggest of which include trophy support, a single-player tutorial, and color-coding for servers, many of which seem slated to serve new adopters of the recently discounted game.

We're still awaiting some replies from Jobe to a few of our questions, but for now, here are some details from his post regarding trophies. Look for 56 of them in the update. Unlike many PS3 titles, Warhawk can implement certain retroactive trophies, since it tracks your online stats. Some of the trophies are included for the game's booster packs. Jobe confirmed in a prior blog post that earning all of the existing trophies is the criteria for the platinum accolade.



It seems that although there's plenty of support for hardcore Warhawk fans, such as new clan support tools and insignias, the biggest additions in the update seem designed to attract gamers who've just picked it up. To ease the transition for newcomers, Incognito is implementing four tutorials for offline practice. You can learn how to play infantry, ground vehicles, and aircraft. The fourth tutorial, "Flight Practice," is designed to let you learn how to pilot a Warhawk without the fear of near-instant incineration.

In addition to adding newbie-friendly tutorials to the online-centric shooter, Incognito is making it easier to avoid swimming with sharks. Warhawk's servers will be updated with rookie indicators. To distinguish them from the blue-colored servers (Sony-hosted) and yellow-coded servers (Home beta testers), new players can look for green servers to fly in (slightly) friendlier skies. Or at least with a few people who are just as raw.

Currently, only Super Stardust HD supports custom soundtracks. With the new update, Warhawk will also allow you to implement your own beats as you soar the hostile skies. Jobe closed out the blog teasing a few things: news of a future booster pack, more coverage at Leipzig next week, and something that lets you make a quick escape. Look for the patch's release in two weeks.
